WHAT ARE THE SYMPTOMS OF AORTIC STENOSIS?

The type of symptoms you have from aortic stenosis depend on how severely you have the condition.

Problems with the left ventricle of the heart

The left ventricle – that’s the main pumping chamber of the heart – pumps oxygen-rich blood through the aortic valve into the aorta, which carries it to the body. With aortic stenosis, because the opening to the aorta is narrowed, the left ventricle has to work harder to move blood through it.

Hypertrophy

Hypertrophy is when the left ventricle in your heart is increased in size. This can happen when it is having severe problems pumping the blood through.

Arrhythmia

An arrhythmia is  when you have an abnormal heart rhythm or rate. This can be caused by the left ventricle increasing in size.

Breathlessness

If you have aortic stenosis the aortic valve might not close properly, which can make you feel breathless.

Cyanosis

Cyanosis is when your skin looks a bit blue because blood flow is very restricted and not enough oxygen is circulated.
